Rust Engineer (Systems + Backend)

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to join our partner companies building performance-critical systems: high-throughput APIs, data pipelines, developer tooling, blockchain infrastructure, and services being rewritten from Go, C++, or Python. Rust is one of the fastest-growing backend languages in US startups and one of the hardest to hire for. You'll own services end to end, from design and async runtime choices to observability and deployment.

What You'll Do

• Design and build backend services and CLIs in Rust (Tokio, Axum, Actix)
• Own performance work: profiling, memory layout, zero-copy parsing, concurrency
• Migrate hot paths from Python, Go, or C++ to Rust where it pays off
• Write safe FFI boundaries and bindings when integrating with existing code
• Set up observability, benchmarks, and CI for Rust services
• Review code and raise the bar on correctness across the team

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend or systems engineering, 2+ years shipping Rust to production
• Deep understanding of ownership, lifetimes, traits, and async Rust
• Experience with Tokio and at least one web framework (Axum, Actix, Warp)
• Strong grasp of networking, serialization, and database access (sqlx, Diesel)
• Comfortable with Linux, containers, and cloud deployment
• Excellent written and verbal English (B2+)

Nice to Have

• Background in C, C++, or Go before Rust
• Experience with WebAssembly, embedded, or blockchain runtimes
• Contributions to Rust open-source crates
• Knowledge of gRPC, Kafka, or high-throughput event systems
