About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Python Backend Engineer to join our partner companies where Python carries the business logic. Some run a mature Django monolith, others a FastAPI service mesh, and several are moving from one to the other. You'll own data models, APIs, and async workloads, and you'll be expected to have an opinion about where the boundaries belong.
What You'll Do
- Design and build APIs with Django REST Framework or FastAPI
- Model data and write migrations that run safely against large tables
- Build async tasks with Celery, RQ, or native asyncio workers
- Profile and fix slow queries and N+1 patterns
- Write pytest suites that cover the error paths, not just the happy one
- Collaborate with data and frontend teams on contracts
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development, 3+ with Django or FastAPI in production
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including indexing and query planning
- Experience with Celery or another distributed task queue
- Comfortable with typing, Pydantic, and modern Python packaging
- Experience with Docker and CI pipelines
- Excellent written and verbal English (B2+)
Nice to Have
- Experience running both Django and FastAPI in the same organization
- Experience with async SQLAlchemy
- Payments, ledgers, or regulated-data experience
- Contributions to Python open source
